What do you do with hollyhock stalks after they have bloomed?
Because Hollyhocks are bienial, meaning the plant takes two years before it blooms, I like to allow mine to produce seeds and self-broadcast. Then I cut down the stalk. Some people think of Hollyhocks as perennials because they always seem to have flowers. In actuality, the flowers are from plants that were seeded two years prior.
Reply:We left them as is till winter, then mowed them down while raking and mulching.
